Ranil capable of taking on Mahinda, says SF

 ‘Common candidate should be from a major party’


The Democratic Party (DP) yesterday said that it was exploring the possibility of fielding a candidate of its own at the forthcoming presidential election in case the Opposition failed to reach an agreement on a common candidate.
Addressing the media at the DP head office, former army commander Gen. Sarath Fonseka, said his party had two options.
Gen. Fonseka said that the DP would throw its weight behind the Opposition project only if a suitable person was fielded as the common candidate. Whoever received the nomination, he or she should have done a tremendous amount of work for the country, he said..............
