Positive response on relief for SF: Ketagoda

Parliamentarian Jayantha Ketagoda who was a member of the Democratic Party led by former army commander Sarath Fonseka said today that both President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa had responded positively to his request to grant relief to Fonseka.

“I had discussions with President Rajapaksa and the Defence Secretary on restoring Mr. Fonseka’s military rank and decorations including his pension. I also requested that the Rs.70 million frozen in his bank account be released to him. They said they will consider my requests positively after the poll. I believe, the release of Dhanuna Tillekaratne’s release today is an indication of that,” Mr. Ketagoda told media at today’s news briefing at the SLFP head office.

Mr. Ketagoda said he did not accept any perks or financial gratuities for his support to President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the only condition he set for the support was to give relief to his erstwhile former party Chief Sarath Fonseka.

He said he had no doubt that President Rajapaksa and the Defence Secretary would fulfil their pledge and provide relief to Mr. Fonseka after the Presidential election if President Rajapaksa was elected on January 8.

Mr. Ketagoda said after the discussions he realized that neither President Rajapaksa not the Defence Secretary held any grudge against Mr. Fonseka as thought by many and was of the view that Mr. Fonseka would be a free man with all his perks and military decorations restored in the New Year.

He added that his only objective of joining the UPFA in support of President Rajapaksa was to get relief for Mr. Fonseka.

Dhanuna surrenders, granted bail

Colombo High Court Judge Irangani Perera this morning granted bail to former army Commander Sarath Fonseka’s son-in-law Dhanuna Thilakaratne on Rs 400,000 cash with two sureties for Rs 5 million on each of them in the HiCorp case..
The judge said the sureties should be his parents.
 The accused was also restrained from going abroad. He was ordered to be present before the CID on the first Sundays of every month.
 Counsel Niroshana Perera surrounding the accused in court said to the Judge that the accused had absconded court for his safety. He said the court could grant bail to the suspect in a public Property Act offence if the bail application was tendered under   exceptional circumstances.
 He said the suspect had absconded court due to the prevailed situation in the country at that time. He said his client’s uncle Sarath Fonseka, was in remand for more than one and a half years as a result of his being contesting President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the past Presidential Election.
 Thereafter Danuna Thilakaratne was accused to have defrauded the army by forwarding forged documents in the name of the locally registered British Borneo Defense Company of Australia. He said during the case Dhanuna absconded court but was   represented by lawyers in absentia..
The Counsel said Danuna’s mother and his grand mother were indicted for alleged offences and the Police had obtained warrants for the arrest of his client who was innocent.
He aid the police had offered rewards for   his arrest and his client considering those had evaded court for his safety. Therefore Dhanuna’s bail application should be considered as an exceptional circumstance to grant bail.(TFT)

මේ අති විශාල දැවැන්ත ජනහමු දැක්‌කම ලබන 8 වැනිදා ජයගන්නේ කවුද කියලා ජනතාවටම පෙනෙනවා. 2005 දී අපි බලයට එන විට මේ රටේ ජනතාව ඉල්ලුවේ වෙන මොකුත් නෙවෙයි වසර 30 ක කාලයක්‌ තිස්‌සේ පවතින කුරිරු යුද්ධය අවසන් කර රට බෙදීම නවත්තලා රට නිදහස්‌ කර දෙන ලෙසයි. ඒ සඳහා අපි දුන්න පොරොන්දුව 2009 දී වසර හතරක්‌ යන්න කලින් ඉටු කර රට නිදහස්‌ කළා. එදා රට නිදහස්‌ කරගත් දවසේ මුළු රටම සතුටු වුණා. වයඹ පළාතේ ඔබලාත් වැඩියෙන්ම සතුටු වුණා.

ගාල්ල දිස්‌ත්‍රික්‌ පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී එක්‌සත් ජාතික පක්‍ෂයේ මාධ්‍ය ප්‍රකාශක ගයන්ත කරුණාතිලක මහතා මෙම ජන හමුව සංවිධානය කර තිබිණි.

එහිදී තවදුරටත් අදහස්‌ දැක්‌වූ මෛත්‍රීපාල සිරිසේන මහතා මෙසේද පැවැසීය.
දැන් මේ රජය මට මඩ ගැසීම සඳහා ඉතා පහත් ආකාරයට කටයුතු කරනවා. යුද ජයග්‍රහණයෙන් පසු මා කළ ප්‍රකාශයන් විකෘති කොට ජාතික රූපවාහිනියෙන්, අයි.ටී.එන්. එකෙන් ප්‍රචාරය කරනවා. එදා යුද ජයග්‍රහණයේදී යුද්ධයට නායකත්වය දුන් සේනාධිනායකයා ගැන මා පමණක්‌ නොවෙයි මුළු රටම කතා කළා. ඒත් මේ රටේ ජනතාව සිතුවේ යුද්ධයේ ප්‍රතිඵල රටේ සමස්‌ත ජනතාවට ලැබේවි කියලයි.

මැතිවරණ පැමිණිලි විභාගයේදී පොලිසියට බලපෑම්

පොලිස්‌ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවට සම්බන්ධයක්‌ නැති එක්‌තරා නිලධාරියකු විසින් ඇතැම් ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ පොලිස්‌ නිලධාරීන්ට සහ පොලිස්‌ ස්‌ථානාධිපතිවරුන්ට කථා කරමින් මැතිවරණ පැමිණිලි විභාග කිරීම්වලට බාධා එල්ල කිරීම නිසා පොලිස්‌ නිලධාරීහු දැඩි අසීරුතාවකට පත්ව සිටිති. ජනාධිපතිවරණයේදී පොලිසිය ක්‍රියා කළ යුතු ආකාරය පිළිබඳව මෙම නිලධාරීයා විසින් ලිඛිතව සහ වාචිකව පොලිස්‌ නිලධාරීන්ට බලපෑම් එල්ල කරන බව වාර්තා වෙයි.
රට පුරා ඉදිකර ඇති කටවුට්‌ බැනර් ඉවත් නොකරන්නැයි කියමින් මෙම නිලධාරියා ඇතැම් පොලිස්‌ ස්‌ථානාධිපතිවරුන්ට බලපෑම් කර ඇති බවද පොලිස්‌ මූලස්‌ථාන ආරංචි මාර්ග කියා සිටියි.
පොලිස්‌පතිවරයාගේ නියෝගවලට පටහැනිව ක්‍රියා කරන මෙම නිලධාරියාගේ ක්‍රියා කලාපය පිළිබඳව පොලිස්‌ නිලධාරීන් සිය අප්‍රසාදය පළ කර සිටිති.

ජනාධිපතිවරණ ඡන්ද විමසීමට සෘජුව සම්බන්ධ වන තේරීම්භාර නිලධාරීන්ට (දිසාපතිවරුන්ට) දේශපාලනඥයන් සහභාගි වන රාජ්‍ය උත්සව සඳහා ආරාධනා නොකරන ලෙස මැතිවරණ කොමසාරිස්‌ මහින්ද දේශප්‍රිය මහතා අමාත්‍යාංශ ලේකම්වරුන්ට හා පළාත් ප්‍රධාන ලේකම්වරුන්ට දන්වා ඇත.

සිම රාජ්‍ය ආයතනයක ඡන්ද ප්‍රචාර වැඩ තහනම්

කිසිම රාජ්‍ය ආයතනයක ජනාධිපතිවරණ අපේක්‍ෂකයන් වෙනුවෙන් ඡන්ද ප්‍රචාරක කටයුතු කිරීම හෝ රැස්‌වීම් පැවැත්වීම වහාම ක්‍රියාත්මක වන පරිදි තහනම් බව මැතිවරණ කොමසාරිස්‌ මහින්ද දේශප්‍රිය මහතා ආයතන ප්‍රධානීන්ට ඊයේ (18 දා) දැනුම් දී තිබේ.
මේ අනුව රජයේ හෝ පළාත් සභා කාර්යාල හෝ රජයේ පාසල්, පළාත් පාලන ආයතන හෝ වෙනත් රාජ්‍ය සංස්‌ථා, මණ්‌ඩල සතු ආයතනවලට මෙම නීතිය බලපැවැත්වෙයි.
ඡන්දය ආයාචනය කිරීම, අත් පත්‍රිකා බෙදීම, රැස්‌වීම් පැවැත්වීම හෝ එවැනි වෙනත් කාර්යයන් වලින් වැළකී සිටීම අත්‍යවශ්‍ය බව සියලුම දේශපාලනඥයන්ට, ක්‍රියාකාරීන්ට හා වෘත්තීය සමිති ක්‍රියාකාරීන්ට කොමසාරිස්‌වරයා දැනුම් දී තිබේ.

වත්මන් පාලනයෙන් පීඩාවට පත්ව සිටින සමස්‌ථ රාජ්‍ය සේවකයන් ඉන් මුදාගෙන ඔවුන්ට ආත්ම ගෞරවයෙන් යුතුව ජීවත්විය හැකි පාලනයක්‌ ලබන 8 වැනිදායින් පසුව අරඹන බව විපක්‍ෂයේ පොදු අපේක්‍ෂක මෛත්‍රීපාල සිරිසේන මහතා ඇල්පිටියේ දී පැවැසීය.

ස්‌වාධීන රාජ්‍ය සේවා කොමිෂන් සභාව අහෝසි කිරීමත් රාජ්‍ය සේවකයන් සඳහා වැටුප් වැඩි නොකිරීමත් නිසා අද ඔවුන් අන්ත අසරණ තත්ත්වයට පත්ව සිටින බව හෙතෙම කීය.

වත්මන් පාලනය යටතේ රාජ්‍ය සේවය අන්ත දූෂිත තත්ත්වයකට ඇද දමා තිබෙනවා. ඉතිහාසයේ කිසිදු යුගයක රාජ්‍ය සේවකයන් මෙවැනි අස්‌වාභාවික තත්ත්වයකට මුහුණ පෑවේ නැහැ. ජනවාරි අට වැනිදා අපි ලබන ජයග්‍රහණයත් සමග මේ අඳුරු යුගය නිමා කර රාජ්‍ය සේවකයන් ඇතුළු සමස්‌ථ රට වැසියන් මේ අවාසනාවන්ත පාලනයෙන් මුදා ගන්නවා.

රාජ්‍ය සේවයේ ස්‌වර්ණමය යුගය මේ යුගය බවත් රාජ්‍ය සේවයේ යෙදෙන අයට අවශ්‍ය සියලු පහසුකම් සැලසීමට අප රජය බැඳී සිටින බවත් ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්‍ෂ මහතා ඊයේ (18 වැනිදා) මුලතිව්හි පැවැති ජනහමුවකදී පැවසීය.

රාජ්‍ය සේවයේ ගෞරවය ඇතිකර ඔවුන්ට බියෙන් සැකෙන් තොරව සේවය කිරීමට අවස්‌ථාව සලසා දුන් බව පැවසූ ජනාධිපතිවරයා ලක්‍ෂ තුනකට අඩු කිරීමට නියමිතව තිබූ රාජ්‍ය සේවකයන් ලක්‍ෂ පහළොව දක්‌වා වැඩි කිරීමට පියවර ගත් බවත් පැවසීය.
ලබන වසරේදී තවත් තරුණ තරුණියන් එක්‌ලක්‍ෂ පනස්‌ දහසක්‌ දෙනාට රාජ්‍ය සේවයට එක්‌වීමට ඉඩ දීමට අය වැයෙන් ප්‍රතිපාදන වෙන් කර ඇතැයි ද සඳහන් කළේය.
අපි ජාතීන් වශයෙන් බෙදී සටන් කළොත් ජාතීන් වශයෙන් වෛරයෙන් කටයුතු කළහොත් රටත් ජාතියත් ඔබත් දියුණු වන්නේ නැතැයි ජනාධිපතිවරයා කියා සිටියේ ය. සියලු ජාතීන්ට හා ආගම්වලට එකට අත්වැල් බැඳගෙන යා හැකි සමාජයක්‌ ගොඩනගන බවද හෙතෙම පැවසීය.
මෙහිදී දෙමළ ජාතික සන්ධානයේ හා පක්‍ෂ කිහිපයක ක්‍රියාකාරී සාමාජිකයෝ තිස්‌එක්‌ දෙනෙක්‌ ජනාධිපතිවරයාට සහාය පළ කරමින් සන්ධානයට එක්‌වූහ............

Gota blasts those ashamed of being Sinhalese

Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa today said it was extremely unfortunate to note that there were some influential figures within Sri Lanka who have said openly that the country should submit itself to an international investigation.

“One such figure has even admitted to being proud of her children for saying they were ashamed to be Sinhalese and Sri Lankans after having watched what is little more than an LTTE propaganda film aired on Channel 4,” Mr. Rajapaksa said addressing businessmen and professionals at the Momentum forum.

MR has to go immediately if defeated– UNP

No staying on for the unutilised two years of his present term

If President Mahinda Rajapaksa was defeated at the January 08 Presidential Election he would have to vacate the post immediately though he had two more years of his previous term, UNP Colombo District MP Wijayadasa Rajapakshe, PC said yesterday.

Addressing the media at the Opposition Presidential Candidate Maithripala Sirisena’s office on Havelock Road, Rajapakshe said that President Rajapaksa did not have legal power to continue for two more years in case of defeat.

The President’s Counsel maintained that it was clearly indicated in Article 31 (4) (b) of the Constitution. According to the Article 31 (4) (b) of the Constitution, where the President in office is not a candidate or is not re-elected, at a poll for the election of President, his term of office shall be deemed to have expired on the date on which the result of such election is declared. The person elected as President at such election shall assume office forthwith, but not later than two weeks from such date.

A section of Buddhist monks recently told the media that President Rajapaksa could continue for two more years to complete his previous term in case of his defeat at the January 08 polls, but he could not do so, the UNP MP said.

Rajapakshe said that President Rajapaksa had promised Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith to vacate the post if he was defeated.

Western Provincial Council UNP member Srinath Perera PC said that the statement of a section of Buddhist monks that President Rajapaksa could continue for two more years proved that Rajapaksa camp had already accepted defeat.

He asked Buddhist monks to think twice before issuing such statements.

Former Western Provincial Council UNP member Shiral Lakthilaka also addressed the media.

Common opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena will be sworn in immediately if he is elected the President of this country, the common opposition said today.

Joint spokesman for the common candidate and UNP MP Mangala Samaraweera told a media briefing that Mr. Sirisena would be sworn  it by January 10 if he wins the presidential election and would not allow the incumbent president to continue for two years as mentioned by some ruling party members.

 He also said the opposition had no intention of instigating violence in the event a second preference count takes place after the election.  He made this point with regard to an allegation made by the head of a pro government organization recently.

 Mr. Samaraweera said action would be taken against all prominent state personnel who get the junior officers of the state to engage in election work of the ruling party candidate. Accordingly he said action would be taken against high ranking police officers and ministry secretaries who engaged in election work.

 The other joint spokesman Dr. Rajitha Senarathe who responded to a statement made by Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa that there were traitors in the opposition and patriots in the government, said Mr. Rajapaksa was not a member of the armed forces during the initial stages of the war. He said the real hero behind the war was former Army Chief Sarath Fonseka. However Dr. Senaratne said Fonskea did not heed to his request not to contest for the presidency in 2010. Dr. Senarathe said he was fully against the arrest of Fonseka by the present regime.

 UPFA national list MP Dr. Rajeewa Wijesinha who also participated in the news conference alleged that all ambassadors who are stationed at Sri Lankan missions abroad had also been called in to engage in political work today.

 Meanwhile Galle District JNP leader Aruna Takshala De Silva and SLFPs Ratgama Organizer M. Gunapala De Silva later joined in the briefing and said they had decided to back the common candidate. (Yohan Perera)

ජනාධිපතිවරණ පූර්ව මැතිවරණ ප්‍රචන්ඩ ක්‍රියා 51 න් බරපතල සිදුවීම් 12ක් හැරුණූ විට 39 සුළු සිදුවීම් බවද ඒ මහතා පැවසීය.

එක්සත් ජාතික පක්ෂයෙන් පැමිණිලි 17ක් සන්ධානයෙන් පැමිණිලි 15ක් සහ වෙනත් පක්ෂ වලින් පැමිණිලි 19ක්ද ලැබී ඇති බවද ඒ මහතා සඳහන් කළේය.
