Common candidate a "Western conspiracy," says SLFP stalwarts

Anura Priyadarshana Yapa has been appointed General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva announced at a hastily organized press conference at party headquarters yesterday.

Six party stalwarts including, John Seneviratne, Nimal Siripala de Silva, AHM Fowzie, Dallas Allahaperuma, Susil Premjayanth and Anura Priyadarshana Yapa took the head table 45 minutes behind schedule to make the announcement.

The newly appointed General Secretary will assume duties ceremonially at the party headquarters at an auspicious time yet to be determined.

Addressing the press, Minister de Silva said, "The SLFP is not unaccustomed to having its general secretaries leaving ever since CP de Silva quit.......................
