Presidential Election :
We are not discussing a Common Candidate – JVP

* Its illegal for Mahinda to seek re-election

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says that it is not party to the discussions to nominate the Joint Oppositions Common Candidate, since it is of the view that the next presidential election will be illegal.

The JVP’s Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath MP, told The Island on Monday that his party did not accept the Supreme Court opinion that President Mahinda Rajapaksa could seek a third term. "We believe  that  it would be illegal for  the incumbent to bid for re-election. It is on this basis that the People’s Movement For Democracy would  be holding a protest march in Colombo tomorrow, opposing the holding of a presidential poll and calling for the abolition of the executive presidency.........
