විපක්‍ෂයේ පොදු අපේක්‍ෂක මෛත්‍රීපාල සිරිසේන මහතාට සහාය පළකරන කලාකරුවන් පිරිසකගේ සහභාගීත්වයෙන් පෙරේදා (16 දා) පිටකෝට්‌ටේ සෝලිස්‌ උත්සව ශාලාවේ පැවති මාධ්‍ය හමුවේදී චිත්‍රපට නිෂ්පාදක ප්‍රසන්න විතානගේ මහතා අදහස්‌ දැක්‌වූ අයුරු. බෙනට්‌ රත්නායක, ධර්මසිරි බණ්‌ඩාරනායක, පරාක්‍රම නිරිඇල්ල, ගාමිණි වියන්ගොඩ දිල්හානි ඒකනායක යන කලාකරුවෝද මෙහි වෙති.ප්‍රජාතන්ත්‍රවාදය සඳහා කලාකරුවෝ සංවිධානය මෙවර ජනාධිපතිවරණයේදී විපක්‍ෂයේ පොදු අපේක්‍ෂක මෛත්‍රීපාල සිරිසේන මහතාට සහාය දැක්‌වීමට තීරණය කර ඇත.
පිටකෝට්‌ටේ සෝලිස්‌ උත්සව ශාලාවේදී පෙරේදා(16 දා) මාධ්‍ය හමුවක්‌ කැඳවමින් එම සංවිධානය මේ බව නිවේදනය කළේය.
මහාචාර්ය සරත් විඡේසූරිය, චිත්‍රපට අධ්‍යක්‍ෂවරුන් වන ධර්මසිරි බණ්‌ඩාරනායක, බෙනට්‌ රත්නායක, ප්‍රසන්න විතානගේ, නළු නිළියන් වන දිල්හානි ඒකනායක, ජගත් සිල්වා, ජගත් මනුවර්ණ, දමයන්ති පොන්සේකා, සමනලි ෆොන්සේකා, ගායන ශිල්පින් වන ඩබ්ලිව්. ඒ. ආරියසේන, රජිව් සෙබස්‌තියන් ලක්‍ෂමන් විඡේසේකර, රෝහණ බෝගොඩ, වේදිකා නාට්‍ය ශිල්පි කේ. බී. හේරත්, ගීත රචක සමන් මනුනාත් වීරසිංහ යන මහත්ම මහත්මීන් ඇතුළු ප්‍රවීණ සහ ආධුනික කලාකරුවෝ රැසක්‌ මෙම අවස්‌ථාවට එක්‌ව සිටියහ.

Film director complains of suppression of artistic freedom

No government has suppressed the artistes and intellectuals the way the present government of Mahinda Rajapaksa has, says a popular film director.
Film Director, Prasanna Withanage, speaking at a seminar organised by an organisation called Citizens Power yesterday at the Library Services auditorium in Colombo said presidents J. R. Jayewardene, Ranasinghe Premadasa, Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga had interfered in many things but they had never meddled with the contents of films, Withanage said.
The incumbent government favoured films that promoted ethno-religious disharmony, Withanage said. The progressive artistes who stood for ethnic harmony were branded terrorists or traitors. He said the film industry had been doomed the day President Mahinda Rajapaksa was elected in 2005. National Film Corporation Chairman Asoka Serasinghe had told the creme de la creme of film artistes that films should be made to suit the taste of the powers that be.
Film critic Gamini Viyangoda said that their campaign was not aimed at promoting any candidate in the presidential race. He added that they were confident they would regain their freedom after Maithipala Sirisena became the President and abolished the executive presidency.
Among those present at yesterday’s briefing were Parakkrama Niriella, Dharmasiri Bandaranaike, K.B. Herath and Lucien Bulathsinhala.
